Catching the Elusive Maine Shirmp

Writer's picture: Ben MartensBen Martens

I had the opertunity to join Gary Libby and Justin Libby of Port Clyde on a fishing trip targeting shrimp. The shrimp fishery was shut down in 2014 after warming waters and overfishing caused the stock to collapse. The Atlanic States Marine Fisheries Commision is the entity that manages the shrimp fishery, and has allowed a handful of vessels to take a small number of research trips to collect samples and this was one of those trips.

We hopped on the fishing vessel the Leslie and Jessica at 5AM and headed out to find the elusive shrimp. I brought along my camera to share the experience.
