Maine Coast Monkfish Stew Selected as Good Food Awards Finalist

We are thrilled that MCFA’s Maine Coast Monkfish Stew was chosen as one of the Finalists for the 2023 Good Food Awards! More than 1750 submissions were tasted by category experts and consumer tasters and also had to meet rigorous sustainability criteria to make the final list of 359 products.

Gulf of Maine Conservas’s Tinned Bluefin tuna, another value added seafood product from the Gulf of Maine, also made the list. Gulf of Maine Conservas’s owner, Keper Connell,

is also a member of MCFA’s Maine Coast Community Sector, a group of fishermen that participates in a form of “catch sharing” management.

The Good Food Awards is a program of the San Francisco-based non-profit, the Good Food Foundation, which includes a broad community of food crafters, grocers, chefs, food writers, activists and passionate food-lovers. The 2023 Good Food Award winners will be announced on April 21st at the Good Food Awards Ceremony in Portland, Oregon.

MCFA worked with Hurricane's Premium Soups and Chowders of Greene Maine to produce the Stew which combines Maine monkfish with local potatoes, carrots, cream and lobster stock to create a unique and delightful seafood stew.

The proceeds from sales of Maine Coast Monkfish Stew directly support local fishermen and MCFA's Fishermen Feeding Mainers fish donation program. Fishermen Feeding Mainers purchases fish from Maine fishermen at a fair price and donates locally processed fish to schools and food banks throughout the state. Over the last two years, the program has donated over 650,000 seafood meals to over 60 community groups from Millinocket to Kittery and kept more than 15 boats fishing for sustainably harvested local seafood.

Maine Coast Monkfish Stew is available for purchase in a frozen 16 oz. heat and serve pouch, making it the perfect quick meal for a winter day. The boxed product can be found at over 60 locations throughout the state including many seafood retailers and 11 Hannaford stores. It is also served at the Brunswick Diner located on Pleasant Street right next to the MCFA office.
